WE SHALL OVERCOME

We Shall Overcome also known as Drommen. A Dannish, family, drama movie in 1969, written and directed by Niels Arden Oplev. I find it an interesting movie with the story of Frits, (portrayed by Janus Dissing Rathke) a typical young boy who is labeled as weird by his bestfriend because he is taking more interest in his studies compared to an average boy. He is inspired by his music teacher and the speeches of Martin Luther King to take his battle against the school authorities.

The issue of corporal punishment as practiced by the sadistic head of school is being opposed by Frits hippie music teacher, gives him more courage to fight for his justice and right. His ears is being pinched so tight which causes his earlobes to rip and blood comes out from it.
The love and unity in the family is one major concern in the story as Frits father stands on his side and his love for his son emerges when he courageously face school authorities to fight for his son, even if it cause him to be humiliated as his being taken to the recuperation center when he suffered clinical deppression, is brought as an issue against him. But still that issue is out of the question.

As the title connotes "We Shall Overcome" Frits' "courageousness and strong determination", his family and even the children in the school have overcome all the trials as he/they won the battle.
