The Virgin Suicides film was made from a novel written by Jeffrey Eugenides. 21st April 2000, the virgin Suicides had released in USA and continued to release to another 42 countries. The virgin Suicides also known as other 21 difference names in various languages.
The meaning and Theme of the Virgin Suicides
The Virgin Suicides is Drama and Mystery film which clarify American teenage life. Theme of the movie is teenage lifestyle issue, parents don’t understand these problems. The Film shows how having a boring life can affect your mentality of life for example Cecilia believe she could fly like a bird then she jump out the window and end her life. The meaning of the movie can be classified as how people live there life will cause problems to other people. Family members and friends are all affected.

Sofia Coppola is the Director of the virgin Suicides; she is also very famous female director because she won 41 Oscar awards and received 33 nominations. Sofia Coppola also the Director of other famous films such as Lost in Translation and Marie Antoinette. In additional Sofia Coppola became the youngest Oscar nominated as Best director for Lost in Translation in 2003. In 2004, Sofia Coppola is The First American woman to be nominated for the best director for the Academy Award.

Story Overview
The story begin with a big fine looking tree witch assume that it’s sick and dying soon just like the community, The houses , teenage they are looking great but inside there is a lot of problems. Summer has begun, thirteen years old Cecilia Lisbon the youngest of Lisbon sister committed suicides by cut her wrists while taking a bath. She is saved but the psychiatrist suggested that she should have a social life outside the school. The Lisbon girls introduced by their neighbor boy, 13 years old Cecilia, 14 years old Lux, 15 years old Bonnie, 16 years old Mary, and 17 years old Therese. The party starts at Lisbon’s house for Cecilia permitted by Mr. and Mrs. Lisbon. Cecilia seems unconscious to her sister and neighborhood boys, Cecilia ask to be excused from her own party. She went to her bedroom and jumps out the window onto the fence and ends her life forever.
Since Cecilia death shock the community, the neighbors were talking about Cecilia dead and curious about what happen to her. The whole story of Lisbon family been told by the neighbor boys as they found Cecilia diary. The boys read through Cecilia diary and imagine themselves into the Lisbon girl life and tried to find out the explanation of Cecilia death.
Mr. and Mrs. Lisbon decided to remove the fence witch cause Cecilia death. The summer ends, Lisbon girls back to school. Mr. Lisbon a high school math teacher keeps himself busy at work while Lux Lisbon the prettiest of the sisters having a secret relationship against her parents rules.
Trip Fontaine, the most popular boy in high school falls in love with Lux. Trip invite himself to Lisbon’s house but he’s only allow to sit on the couch and watching Television and sit between of Mr. and Mrs. Lisbon. While Trip sitting in his car after left Lisbon house, Lux jumps in his car and start kissing him then she dash back in to her house.
Trip Fontaine went to talk to Mr. Lisbon to ask if he could take Lux to Homecoming. After Mr. and Mrs. Lisbon were discussing the result come as they have to take all Lisbon sisters and the girls have to be home by 11 pm. At the homecoming night the girls dress up nicely and get ready for the boys to pick them up. At the night Trip and Lux are voted to be Homecoming king and Queen. After the homecoming is over boys take the Lisbon girls home except for Trip and Lux. Trip and Lux sneak out from the party, they found a place where no one will found them. They make love on the football field , Trip abandons Lux when she fell to sleep and Lux have to go home by herself.
Since Lux breaking the rules, Mrs. Lisbon withdraws the girl from school. Lisbon girls locked in the house since then, no communication with opposite sex. The neighbor boys begin to see Lux having sex with random guys on the roof. As the time past by the boys stared to get a short message comes with random stuff from the Lisbon girls. Then the boys successfully call Lisbon girls and exchange songs over the phone. The boys cannot contact Lisbon girls anymore however they receive a message asking for help at one midnight.
The boys sneaked in to Lisbon’s house, they saw Lux sit and smoking on the sofa in living room. Lux said her sister is getting ready up stair then she told the boys she will wait in the car. The boys were impatient and explore into the house and find Bonnie’s body hanging dead in the basement, the boys get scare and ran out of the house. Early in the morning of that day, news reported about the death of Lisbon girls. Bonnie by hanging, Therese by overdosed, Mary by stuck her head in the oven, and Lux is the last to go by suffocated from the smoke of the fumes coming from the car while the garage is closed.
Mr. and Mrs. Lisbon sold the house to a young couple and move to somewhere else while the neighbor boys decided the end there suspicious about the Lisbon girls.
Characters Analysis
James Wood as Ronald Lisbon
James Wood role as Mr. Ronald Lisbon, Mr. Lisbon is a high school math teacher where the Lisbon sisters study. Mr. Lisbon character is a quiet boring father which doesn’t give much opinion in his family. He loves his daughter but he doesn’t know what his daughters really need.
Kathleen Turner as Mrs. Lisbon
Kathleen Turner role as Mrs. Lisbon, Mrs. Lisbon is a housewife taking care of her 5 daughters. Mrs. Lisbon character is a very strict parent, she almost rule everything in her daughter’s life. Until the end she still doesn’t know what her daughters need.
Hanna Hall as Cecilia
Hanna Hall role as Cecilia Lisbon, Cecilia is a 13 years old girl who is the youngest in Lisbon sisters . Cecilia Character is a young girl who get bored of her life and tried to kill herself to get freedom from her parents.
Kristen Dunst as Lux Lisbon
Kristen Dunst role as Lux Lisbon , Lux is a 14 years old girl and the prettiest in Lisbon sister. Lux character is a young girl who looking for loves in a wrong way. She likes to have a secret love and breaks her parents rule.
Chelse Swain as Bonnie Lisbon
Chelse Swain as Bonnie Lisbon, Bonnie is a 15 years old girl who seems to be quiet and shy. Bonnie character is just a normal teenage girl but because her life rule by her parents make Bonnie bored of her life.
A.J. Cook as Mary Lisbon
A.J. Cook role as Mary Lisbon, Mary is a 16 years old girl. Her character was just counted as one of the sisters but never had a important role.
Leslie Hayman as Therese Lisbon

Josh Harnett role as Trip Fontaine, Trip and is a young popular man in high school. Trip character is a cool guy who likes to get high most of the time, he’s a play boy who is flirting around. Trip fell in love with Lux and he did something which change Lux life forever.

The neighbor boys are the Lisbon sisters neighborhood the y character are a group of young boy who like to experience themselves in to the Lisbon sisters life. They would like to find out answers and reasons about Lisbon sister death.
