Nattinee - 3155 - Steven Spielberg

My Favourite Director is Steven Spielberg

Steven Spielberg was born in Ohio in 1946 into a Jewish family where both his parents had professional jobs. His mother was a restaurateur and concert pianist while his father was an electrical engineer involved in the development of computers. Steven started making films while he was still a teenager and even started selling tickets for these movies. He applied for University of Southern California School of Theater multiple times but each time was declined. From this he went to California State University Long Beach. Even though he went to university Steven never completed his degree until he was 35 due to dropping out and completing an independent project.

The reason I like this director is because he makes the audience believe things are happening in real life even though you know it is still only just a movie. He is able to create films in different genres which include science fiction and adventure films and even depict true life issues such issues include Holocaust, slavery, war and terrorism. The main reason I like this director is that many movies that he directed did not use cheap special effects or suspense to keep you interested but they were still able to draw you in and keep you wanting to watch more.

Steven Spielberg created many famous movies over his directing career. Some of these films include the Indiana Jones series and the Jaws series. “Spielberg won the Academy Award for Best Director for Schindler's List (1993) and Saving Private Ryan (1998). Three of Spielberg's films - Jaws (1975), E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), and Jurassic Park (1993) - achieved box office records, each becoming the highest-grossing film made at the time” (Wikipedia, 2010).
